blog post 3 (26.12.2016)

How to say "you're welcome" in Slovak?

This blog post is going to be quite short but really helpful in everyday situations. Enjoy!

You surely know the word "ďakujem" which means "thank you" but what to reply when someone is grateful to you?

You're welcome!:

1. a) vykanie - Nemáte za čo! (formal/when adressing to a group of people)
    b) tykanie - Nemáš za čo/Nemáš zač/Není zač (when you know the person, informal)
                   - the abbreviation "nz" is sometimes used in writing

All of the following expressions are neutral - they can be used between friends or unkown people. The expressions are interchangeable.

2. Za málo

3. Also, the word prosím is used quite often. It also means "please"

4. Other ways:
To je maličkosť!
To nič nie je! To nič nebolo!
Aj nabudúce!
Žiaden problém!

They can be combined.

A: Ďakujem!
B: Nemáš za čo! Aj nabudúce!

A: Dík!
B: Nemáš zač!

A: Veľmi pekne ďakujem, slečna.
B: Nemáte za čo! To je maličkosť.
